The discontinuation of support for outdated protocols has an impact on the use of secure (encrypted) connections in older versions of mail clients.
- Apple Mail: 9.3 and older
- Eudora
- Outlook for Mac: 2012 and older
- Outlook for Windows: 2010 and older
- Thunderbird 27 and older
- Windows Live Mail
- OpenSSL-based software older than 1.0.1
- Android: 4 and older
- iOS: 4 and older
- macOS: El Capitan (10.11) and older
- Windows: 7 and older
If you are using any of the above mail clients with secure communication set up, change the server settings as follows.
- Encrypted connection type: None (or uncheck the appropriate option)
- Incoming mail server (IMAP): 143 (port 110 for POP3)
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP): 587 or 25
In case canceling the encrypted connection and using the above ports doesn't restore the functionality of the outdated mail client, check your antivirus settings and try disabling the mail shield (temporarily).
Below are the instructions for the two most commonly used mail clients. The setup images may vary because they were created in current versions of the programs.
