Subdomains: adding and managing in multihosting

🧩 What is a subdomain and what is it used for

A subdomain is an extension of the main domain that allows you to run a separate part of a website at an address in the form of:

eshop.mycompany.com
blog.mycompany.com
test.mycompany.com

Subdomains are typically used, for example, for:

  • an e-shop separated from the main website,
  • a blog, help section, or documentation,
  • language versions of a website,
  • testing versions of a website (test, dev).

In multihosting, subdomains can be created across all hosted websites within a single service.

🔢 Number of available subdomains in multihosting

The maximum number of subdomains depends on the selected multihosting plan and always applies to the entire multihosting, not to individual websites separately.

Hosting planMaximum number of subdomains

Advanced15
Professional50

The number of subdomains is derived from the maximum number of websites in the given plan (1 website = 5 subdomains).

📊 How the limit is calculated in practice

Subdomains are not permanently assigned to a specific website. They can be distributed arbitrarily among all websites within the multihosting.

For example, with the Advanced plan (15 subdomains):

  • one website can use 12 subdomains,
  • the second website uses the remaining 3 subdomains.

If you need more subdomains, it is necessary to upgrade the multihosting plan. In this case, contact customer support to switch to a higher plan.

With the Professional plan, it is possible to purchase an additional website beyond the base limit, which automatically increases the number of available subdomains by another 5. Additional websites can be purchased (CZK 10 excl. VAT / month for each additional website) from the multihosting administration via the option "Order additional services (websites)".

⚙️ Managing subdomains in the customer administration

Subdomain management is always available for a specific website in the customer administration.

Path in the administration:
Account administration → Webhosting → selected multihosting → specific website → Subdomains

Here you can:

  • add new subdomains,
  • view an overview of already created subdomains,
  • delete existing subdomains.

The overview also includes information about subdomain usage within the entire multihosting, for example in the form:

used: 4 (3 + 1)

Meaning of the values:

  • 3 – number of subdomains for the current website,
  • 1 – number of subdomains for other websites within the same multihosting.

➕ Adding a new subdomain

  1. Enter the subdomain name into the add subdomain field (without the domain and www).
  2. Click the add button.

The newly added subdomain will appear in the list with the status NOT CONFIGURED.

For the subdomain to be functional, it must be activated on the servers:

  1. Select one or more subdomains marked as NOT CONFIGURED.
  2. Click the SETUP ON SERVERS button.

🗑️ Deleting a subdomain

To remove a subdomain:

  1. Select one or more subdomains in the list.
  2. Click delete selected.
  3. Confirm the change by clicking SETUP ON SERVERS.

The subdomain will be removed only from the web server configuration. Files stored on the FTP account will not be deleted.

🌐 Subdomain availability and DNS

After being configured on the servers, subdomains are usually immediately available via HTTP if DNS is configured correctly.

The recommended solution is to use a CNAME DNS record in the form:

*.domain.tld

This ensures that all subdomains are automatically directed to the webhosting without the need for additional configuration when they are added.

📁 Working with subdomains via FTP

Each subdomain has its own directory on the server where files can be uploaded using FTP.

The directory structure and working with subdomains via FTP differ depending on the operating system used by the webhosting:

  • Linux Hosting
  • Windows Hosting

A detailed description of the FTP structure and working with subdomains can be found in the following knowledge base articles:
